LAGFerry to introduce water taxis to ease Lagos traffic

    The Lagos State Government has announced plans to introduce water taxis as part of efforts to ease traffic congestion and boost productivity through enhanced transportation on the state’s waterways. Managing Director of the Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFerry), Mr Ladi Balogun, revealed this during a press conference held Tuesday at the Falomo Jetty. According to Balogun, the initiative aligns with the State Government’s THEMES+ agenda on transportation and demonstrates its commitment to developing waterway infrastructure, reducing carbon emissions, and promoting sustainable transport options. “We want to maximise the use of our water resources, especially given the challenges in our road infrastructure,” he said. “Just like we have bus stops on land, we are developing what we call ‘water stops’, designated boarding points on the waterways.” He acknowledged public apprehension toward water travel and stressed the need to address it. “Many people would rather endure road t...

Lagos spends N1.5bn on WASSCE for 56,134 students

  Lagos, April 24, 2025 (NAN) Lagos State Government had fully sponsored the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for 56,134 final-year secondary school students at the cost of N1.5 billion. Mr Jamiu Alli-Balogun, Commissioner, Ministry of Basic Basic and Secondary Education, Lagos State, disclosed this on Thursday at the 2025 Lagos State Ministerial Press Briefing in Ikeja. The briefing was for the ministry to give account of its stewardship in the past one year, in commemoration of the second year of the second term in office, of the state Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu. According to him, 17,575 students were successfully transferred from various public and private schools into the state’s Junior Secondary School II and Senior Secondary School I. FG relaunches national school feeding programme

  The Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Yusuf Sununu, revealed this on Wednesday during a meeting with development partners, NGOs, and government officials in Abuja.   Sununu announced that the relaunch would take place to mark President Bola Tinubu’s second year in office.   He said the programme aims to combat child hunger and improve educational outcomes across the country.   Sununu highlighted the plan’s holistic design providing daily nutritious meals using locally sourced ingredients to support both children’s health and local farming communities.   He stressed the need for transparency, accountability, and collaboration to sustain the programme and ensure its long-term success.   “The initiative aims to benefit 10 million children and could increase school enrolment by 20 per cent and academic performance by 15 per cent by 2025,” he said.   The relaunch comes amid projections that over 30 million Nigerians may ...

Hajj 2025: Sanwo-Olu, Hazmat sponsor medical screening for pilgrims

  Screening  Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr Kadri Hamzat have sponsored the compulsory medical screening for the state's intending pilgrims embarking on holy pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia. This was contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner, Ministry of Home Affairs, Alhaji Ibrahim Layode. The gesture is in fulfilment of the governor's directive that every pilgrim going for the spiritual and tedious exercise from the state must be certified medically fit. Africa Day celebration to hold in China in May

The Center for China-Africa Discourse Studies made this known on Wednesday in Lagos. (Dr.) Abdulrauf Adekunle Adeniji, who was killed by kidnappers despite paying a N50 million ransom for his release.  In a release signed by the group's President, Comrade Sunday Lawrence Adebisi and circulated to journalists on Tuesday, described Adeniji as a respected administrator and grassroots politician from Ife Central, Osun State. 2025 Lagos tourism NBC trade fair surpass 2024 generated income

  Fair The Lagos State Government says that the 2025 edition of the Lagos Tourism NBC Trade Fair's income generator has surpassed 2024 edition which generated N1.3 billion. Lagos tourism fair targets ₦5bn sales
