Immunisation: Lagos rallies council chairmen, others for wider coverage

Lagos State Government in collaboration with council chairmen and religious leaders have step up on campaign on immunisation in order to reach out all Lagosians. The state government called for active participation of all stakeholders in order to ensure that everyone in the state is immunized against any form of diseases. Speaking during the inauguration of the state Task Force on Immunization and Primary Health Care Services in Alausa, Ikeja, on Tuesday, the state Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, who is Chairman of the committee, said that the taskforce was set up to ensure that all children in the state are vaccinated. He acknowledged the immunization team for raising the bar in the administration of immunization in the past years, stressing that efforts must be intensified to reach out to others who have not accessed the vaccines.   Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, has appealed to Nigerians to remain steadfast and patient with the ongoing economic reforms targeted at revitalising agriculture and stabilising the national economy. Hamzat, who represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the 65th National Independence Day Jumat service held at the Lagos Secretariat Community Central Mosque, Alausa, Ikeja, said the administration remained committed to restoring the country’s agricultural estates as a key driver of food security and economic recovery. Lagos nurses assembly reaffirms commitment to ethics — Director

     The Lagos State Government has restated its commitment to training and supporting nurses, not only to ensure quality healthcare delivery to residents but also to strengthen their role as advocates for patients’ rights and safety. Mrs Olusola Aketi, the Director of Nursing Services at the Ministry of Health, made this known at a two-day Nurses Assembly with the theme “Nursing: Leading with Purpose”. Lagos, NEMA partner to host national SEMA conference 2025

  The Lagos State Government, through its Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), in partnership with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), is set to host the National SEMA Conference 2025. The Permanent Secretary, LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed this while speaking with journalists during a press conference at Alausa, Ikeja, on Thursday. Lagos govt. clarifies issues on fire incidents, sympathises with victims

    The Lagos State Government has clarified issues surrounding the recent fire incidents at Afriland Towers and Central Plaza on Lagos Island, saying seven people died from inhalation of carbon monoxide. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that on Sept. 16 some parts of Afriland Towers was engulfed by fire. The Mandilas building in the same Lagos Central Business District was also engulfed by fire the same day leading to loss of lives, and goods and property worth millions of Naira. The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, speaking on behalf of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu at a joint news conference in Alausa, described the incidents as unfortunate and condoled with the families of the victims. “The loss of lives is deeply painful to the government and people of Lagos State. “We sympathise with the bereaved families and assure residents that safety of lives and property remain a top priority for this administration,” Omotoso said. Sanwo-Olu woos investors on Lagos Green, conventional bonds

   Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State on Friday urged private investors to continue to have confidence in his administration’s capacity to deliver critical infrastructure for the benefit of residents. Sanwo-Olu made the call at an Investor Forum on the proposed issuance of the state’s maiden N14.1 billion Green Bond and a N200 billion Conventional Bond under the N1 trillion Debt and Hybrid Instruments Issuance Programme. “We have the capacity to deliver more infrastructure if we have more funds at our disposal. Inflation and costs will always go up; the best time to invest is now,” Sanwo-Olu said. FG renews commitment to malaria elimination

The Federal Government on Thursday declared zero tolerance for malaria, reaffirming its commitment to eliminating the disease nationwide.   The announcement came during the mid-term review of the Impact Project and malaria elimination roadmap in Lagos State.   Minister of Health, Prof. Ali Pate, praised the Lagos State Government for its leadership, describing the initiative as a model of determination and innovation.   “I commend the Lagos State Government for pioneering this initiative and showing unwavering dedication to malaria control,” Pate said.   He appreciated national and international partners for their collaboration and reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Health’s support through the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP).   Pate highlighted achievements, including onboarding Patent and Proprietary Medicine Vendors (PPMVs) and community pharmacies into a regulated, digitised malaria service delivery system.   He noted that digital integrat...

NSR: Olotu hails turnout, tasks stakeholders on sustainable impact

 Dr Funmi Olotu, National Coordinator of the National Social Safety Nets Coordinating Office (NASSCO), has expressed delight at the impressive turnout of stakeholders at the engagement on advancing the National Social Register (NSR). Olotu spoke on Monday in Lagos at the one-day meeting convened to deepen collaboration on social protection. She noted that some governors personally attended the event, while others, such as those of Borno, Cross River and Niger, were represented by their deputies a development she described as a “powerful demonstration of commitment.” “The presence we have here today shows that social protection is no longer a footnote in governance. Social register must go beyond numbers to touch lives – Sule

  Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa has called for sustained investment in Nigeria’s National Social Register (NSR), saying that social protection must go beyond statistics to transform lives of vulnerable households. Sule spoke on Monday in Lagos at a one-day stakeholder engagement with the theme: “Advancing Social Protection through the National Social Register”. He said that Nasarawa, known for solid minerals and growing potential in oil and agriculture, had made remarkable strides in building its social register in spite of challenges. “In Nasarawa, we have captured about 570,000 households in our social register, translating to nearly 1.9 million people in a state of just over three million. ” That is real progress, but more importantly, it shows the faces behind the numbers people you can see, touch and feel in their struggle with poverty,” Sule said.
