Lagos recruited 4,166 officers in one year says Agoro

 The Lagos State Head of Service (HoS), Mr Olabode Agoro, on Tuesday disclosed that no fewer than 

4,166 officers in various careers of the state were newly recruited and uploaded into the Oracle database.

Agoro made the disclosure while rounding up the 2024 edition of the Ministerial Press Briefing on Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu's achievement in his first year in office for second term.

The press briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre Alausa Sectariat Ikeja.

He said the newly recruited officers were deployed to relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) where their services would be highly required.

 

Enumerating achievements of his office in the last one year, the Head of Service stated that the State began organising quarterly training, sensitisation and skills acquisition programmes to impact retirees with knowledge and skills required to kick-start and successfully run profitable ventures in retirement.

He affirmed that Governor Sanwo-Olu approved, among others, appointments of principal officers, the elevation of 24 senior public servants to the position of permanent secretaries. 

These accounting officers, he noted, were drawn from the crop of seasoned, proficient and competent senior management officers across different cadres. 

Agoro said that the Office of the "Head of Service just concluded the screening exercise for the aspiring candidates for the positions of Permanent Secretaries and Tutors-General in the state public service

He affirmed that a total of 125 service-wide circulars on policy guidelines and other state activities were issued during the period under review.

 "Two retreats were held to create synergy among arms of government, review policy options and strengthen the institutional framework of MDAs: State Executive Council and Body of Permanent Secretaries Retreat Sept.13 to Sept.16 2023, Directors of Administration and Human Resource Retreat Nov.23 to Nov. 5 2023.

"Other laudable intervention programmes put in place by Mr Governor during the period under review include but not limited to implementation of the N35,000 wage award for public servants with effect from December 2023.

"Also the re- implementation of 25 per cent basic salary incentives for core establishment agencies, implementation of work time flexibility which allows civil servants on grade level 1-14 to work from home twice in a week, while those on grade levels 15-17 are allowed once a week," Agoro said.
