Lagos, May 24, 2024 (NAN) The Lagos Government says its Parastatals Monitoring Office (PMO) conducted major routine inspection of more than 80 parastatals/agencies in the past one year.

The Permanent Secretary in the PMO, Mrs Oluremi Ososanya, gave the figure at a news conference on Friday in Lagos.

The conference was to announce the achievements of the state government in PMO in the last one year.

According to Ososanya, PMO has also taken proactive steps in collating data on new projects and old ones in order to appropriately advise and engage parastatals/agencies and government-owned companies.

“This became necessary to raise the standards of performance of state-owned agencies and parastatals by ensuring that their mandates, as established in their enabling laws, meet the service requirements of 21st Century economy.

“The PMO, at the end of the assessment, will liaise with the heads of agencies to ascertain if there is need to review or interface with law reforms from time to time.

“Currently, we have a total number of 32 agencies’ enabling laws under review with the Law Reform Commission at different levels of assessment.

“We inspected over 80 agencies and parastatals,” she said.

The permanent secretary added that during the year under review, PMO monitored more than 30 project sites, taking note of their challenges and proffering solutions.

“We have a collective documentation that will give true and fair value of state-owned assets to enable them to stand at an advantaged position in terms of leveraging on investment opportunities.

“We have also initiated collaboration with the Lagos Valuation Office to evaluate assets of various parastatals across the state.

“This reports is expected to serve as a resource for stakeholders and policymakers, to make informed decisions, optimise workforce management and prioritise employees welfare,” she said.

Ososanya also said that PMO had been proactive in creating more public awareness about government agencies through its programme: ‘Know Your Agency’.

” The programme was designed to create more awareness for members of the public about the responsibilities of various agencies and parastatals.

“The office has successfully produced an English version of the programme on radio, while currently working on the Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo versions, which will help to bring the government closer to the grassroots,” she said.

She praised the state Gov. Sanwo-Olu for exemplary and visionary leadership.

According to her, the state government’s investment in PMO to carry out the oversight functions shows that the governor has foresight. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
