Lagos showcases aquatic endowment at boat regatta

Regatta  The Lagos State Government, on Saturday, hosted its 2024 Boat Regatta in a spectacular celebration of the state’s rich and unique tourism and maritime heritage. The event, which began at the Five Cowries Creek through to the Wings on Victoria Island and six other locations, witnessed a grand procession led by a special fleet by the state Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu. With the theme: “Our Water, Our Heritage, Our Life”, the boat regatta was a treasure trove of colours, sounds, spirituality and excitement, with revellers across the five divisions of the state in attendance. The event highlighted the economic, cultural and spiritual significance of the coastal areas Lagos is known for. Yuletide: Lawmaker distributes 2,720 bags of rice in Apapa

  A lawmaker, Dr Adesola Adedayo (Apapa Federal Constituency), on Sunday distributed 2,740 bags of 10kg rice to residents of the constituency. The distribution held at the Apapa Astro Turf. “We are here today in the spirit of the season, because Christmas and New Year are seasons to give. “I have come back to my constituency to give back to the people of Apapa Federal Constituency. “Everyone was been carried along – our traditional leaders, community leaders, association of artisans, etc. “We have 274 polling units and we gave 10 bags of 10kg rice to each polling units to avoid stampede,” he said. The lawmaker said that his team ensured proper crowd management to avoid stampede. 72-hour shopping festival begins in Lagos Monday

The Lagos State Government has concluded plans for a 72-hour non-stop shopping extravaganza which will begin on Monday (Dec. 23). The event known as Lagos State Shopping Festival will take place at the iconic Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos. Mr Idris Aregbe, the Special Adviser to the state Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts and Culture, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday. 2024 HOS Games: Keep Fit and Achieve More, Agoro Tells Lagos Civil Servants

  The Lagos State Head of Service, Mr Olabode Agoro has called on civil servants to keep fit to remain healthy and active to achieve more on their jobs in 2025.  Agoro made the call at the finals of the 18th annual Head of Service Games at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.   The Lagos State Government has held its 24th Edition of Christmas Carols of Nine Lessons to usher in the Yuletide in the state.   The carol held at Lagos House, Marina, on Thursday, with top government officials and civil servants in attendance.   The carol had the theme “Unto us a Child is Born”.   Gov. Lagos fresh food agro-hub records N2.5bn transactions

Surveyors can help tackle insecurity, says NIS chairman

Mr Olukolade Kassim, the Chairman of Nigeria Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Lagos Branch, has called on governments to collaborate with surveyors in tackling insecurity.     Kassim made the call at the 90th anniversary of the association which coincided with its 39th Annual General Meeting and held on Wednesday in Ikeja.     The event had the theme: “Brain Drain and Development Growth: Impact on the Surveying Profession in Nigeria. “I believe insecurity will be reduced to the minimum, because we are the masters of location. “If an incident happens at a particular location, you will need to talk to the masters of location. “Once government starts working hand-in-hand with us, the issue of insecurity will be minimised. NIS holds free medical outreach for 1000, residents in Lagos

  The Nigerian Institute of Surveyors (NIS) has organised a free medical outreach for residents within Ikeja and its environs. No fewer than 1000 residents in various locations within Ikeja benefitted from the free healthcare gesture from the institute. The chairman of the Institute Lagos branch, Kolade Kazeem, said the NIS organised the free medical care as part of its Community Social Responsibility (CSR).  “I think we will score ourselves high, there were already people from the neighborhood who knew what was going on so, it’s not only our way of giving back to ourselves, but giving back to society. “We have made provision for about, I think, a thousand people and once we’ve catered for a thousand, that’s all, It’s totally free it’s a way of giving community social responsibility,” he said. “And I think it is very well received by everybody around. Lawmaker empowers 155 residents of Apapa constituency

    Empowerment Mr Adeola Adedayo, representing Apapa Federal Constituency, on Tuesday distributed five different empowerment items to no fewer than 155 residents of Apapa and Iganmu constituency. The distribution held at the Apapa AstroTurf. The items given out included eight Tricycles, 18 chest freezers, 25 generating sets, 51 grinding machines and 51 sewing machines. “There were about eight Keke Maruwa, 17 or 18 freezers. We also have about 51 grinding machines, 51 sewing machines. “We selected them by looking at the pooling units because that is the basic unit of voting. We know that there are 10 wards in Apapa. “So, we selected the beneficiaries across those wards and polling units and then, we also want to ensure that women are not left behind. Lagos Govt. Urges Residents To Embrace Health Insurance

  Dr Emmanuella Zambia, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), said this at a news briefing on Thursday in Ikeja ahead of this year’s Universal Health Coverage Day. Zamba said the domestication of the National Health Insurance Act in Lagos State made it mandatory for both public servants and private residents to enroll in the health insurance scheme in order to reduce out of pocket expenses on healthcare. Zamba also urged enrollees to always report challenges encountered with the health insurance scheme through toll free lines to ensure improved services. Sanwo-Olu pledges to collaborate with FG on road development

   Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, on Tuesday, promised to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Works to improve road development in the state.   Sanwo-Olu said this while receiving the Minister of State for Works, Mr Bello Goronyo, who came on a courtesy visit to the Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja.   He noted that the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) plays different roles in the state, adding that more was expected from the agency in rehabilitating more roads to reduce gridlock and enhance socio-economic development.   “Infrastructure development is the major driver for any government to show what is done for its people.   “What I say to people is that if poor interventions are in health and education, the people might choose not to use those services. “But they cannot choose not to use the road.
