Lagos begins road projects, seeks residents’ cooperation

      Projects     The Lagos State Government has urged residents of Lagos Island to cooperate with urban regeneration agencies as they begin demolishing illegal structures to rehabilitate roads and start 15 projects.   The appeal was made during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Friday.   Mr Olufemi Daramola, Special Adviser to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Infrastructure, made this known at the meeting.   Ten roads set for reconstruction include Idumagbo Avenue, Ojo Giwa, Oroyinyin, Moshalasi, Okoya, and Iga-Iduganran Streets, as well as the completion of Adeniji Adele Road.   Daramola said the Sanwo-Olu administration remains committed to urban regeneration, road rehabilitation, and improving drainage systems in the area.   “I have carefully listened to all stakeholders. Why I challenged my suspension in court- Assembly clerk

  The reinstated Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Olalekan Onafeko, has resumed back to his duty post, saying his resumption is based on court's order. Onafeko was suspended by the House on January 13, the same day Mudashiru Obasa was removed by 36 of the 40 lawmakers sitting on the fateful day. However, Onafeko approached the National Industrial Court (NIC), to challenge his indefinite suspension by the House and the court ordered for his reinstatement pending the determination of suit he filed against the state government and others.  Addressing journalists in his office on Thursday, Onafeko emphasized that he was appointed as Clerk in 2022 to serve a four-year term and was eligible for reappointment under the Lagos State House of Assembly Legislative Service Commission Law.  He also expressed his confusion over the suspension, stating that he was not given prior notice and did not commit any offense to warrant such action. Lagos remains incubator for industrialisation, innovation, says commissioner

Golf: Olapade secures spot in DP World Tour

        Sunday Olapade, the top-ranked male professional golfer in Nigeria, on Thursdy earned a place in the prestigious DP World Tour, a significant achievement for his career.   The DP World Tour, sponsored by the Emirati company DP World, hosts golf tournaments globally. It was formerly called the European Tour before its rebranding.   DP World operates ports worldwide, and the tour’s events are renowned in professional golf. NDDC set for maiden Niger-Delta sports festival

   The Chief Consultant at Dunamis Icon, Itiako Ikpokpo, has announced that no fewer than 3,000 indigenous athletes in the Niger-Delta region are expected to showcase their talents at the first edition of the Niger-Delta Sports Festival. Ikpokpo, who made the disclosure in Lagos on Saturday, said the festival became necessary as a result of the backdrop of top athletes in the region, which prompted the Niger-Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to engage its youth through sport. The festival is scheduled for April 1 to 19 at the 30,000 capacity Godwill Akpabio International Stadium Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State. Athletes are expected to participate in a total of 17 sports that include Football, Basketball, Table Tennis, Tennis, Canoeing, Boxing, Athletics, Para-Powerlifting, Para-Athletics, Swimming, Scrabble, Chess. Food price inflation: South-West governors to set up joint monitoring team.

Team By Aderonke Ojediran Lagos, Feb. 13, 2025 (NAN) The South-West Governors Forum on Thursday said it had become important to checkmate the activities of middlemen that inflated the prices of foodstuffs in the region. The governors took the decision during a meeting in Lagos. The South-West Governors Forum was hosted by its Chairman, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State. The meeting was attended by Governors Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, Biodun Oyebaniji of Ekiti, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Ademola Adeleke of Osun and Sanwo-Olu. The governors said that the South-West Geo-Political Zone would establish a joint monitoring team to checkmate activities of middlemen in food sales. Foundation distributes free UTME forms in Lagos

At the distribution ceremony on Thursday at the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board premises, Akerele said the aim was to give back to the society and encourage the less privileged. “The forms which we are giving out at no cost will afford them the opportunity to sit for the examination organised by JAMB. “The foundation is also taking a step to support them by sponsoring them to higher institutions as part of efforts to reduce burden on their parents,” he said. NADDC boss calls for local auto parts production

  The Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Mr Joseph Osanipin, has urged stakeholders in the automotive industry to prioritise the local manufacturing of vehicle components. He made this call during a stakeholder engagement meeting with the Association of Motor Dealers of Nigeria (AMDON) on Thursday in Ikeja.
