Asaba, Jan. 19, 2024 (NAN) The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Delta State Command, has disassociate itself from an unscrupulous act by some persons extorting money from unsuspecting shuttle bus drivers through the sale of stickers.
Mr Bassey Eshiet, the FRSC Sector Commander, in a statement on Friday, said that the claim that the stickers belonged to the FRSC was not true.
According to him, the claim that the sticker will protect them from arrest if they violate any traffic law, is unfounded, warning that anyone who violates traffic laws will be prosecuted.
“FRSC hereby informs the motoring public, especially the shuttle bus drivers, that FRSC, Delta State Command is not in partnership with anybody to perpetrate such unwholesome practice.
“The practice negates what the Corps was established to carry out, hence they should refuse to be scammed through such antics of mischief makers and extortionists,” he said.
He also urged motorists to desist from offering bribe to FRSC Operatives.
“Motorists should avoid speeding, overloading, use of unsafe tyres and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs so as not to violate traffic laws.
He, however, said that the FRSC will soon commence a joint operation, code named: “Operation Sanitise Asaba-Benin-Onitsha Highways of Infraction”. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
