Lagos intensifies environmental advocacy, urges daily sanitation culture

The Lagos State Government has pledged to intensify advocacy for voluntary environmental cleanliness as the second edition of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise was held across the state’s Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas. The Wife of the Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, participated in the exercise in Alimosho Local Government Area alongside the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab. Others at the exercise included the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Mr Rotimi Akodu, members of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials, and other government officials. Lagos Rep appeals to Tinubu over APC primary election crisis

  A member of the House of Representatives representing Apapa Federal Constituency, Dr Adesola Adedayo, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the crisis trailing the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Lagos State. Adedayo, in a statement issued on Thursday in Lagos, expressed confidence in the president’s ability to ensure justice over disputes arising from the shadow poll conducted to nominate candidates for the forthcoming National Assembly election. Lagos arrests 931 for waste offences

 Lagos, May 24, 2026 (NAN) The Lagos State Government says 931 persons were arrested for waste offences during intensified environmental enforcement operations conducted across the state within one year.     Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing in Alausa, Ikeja, on Sunday.     Wahab said the ministry strengthened Monitoring, Enforcement and Compliance operations to ensure stricter adherence to environmental laws and sanitation standards statewide.     “Through the agency’s enforcement drive, 931 persons were apprehended for waste offences, 2,251 sites inspected, 1,711 contravention notices issued and 239 sites sealed,” he said.     He said enforcement teams evacuated more than 650 tonnes of construction waste during the review period across different parts of the state.     “The agency evacuated over 650 tonnes of construction waste and sustained a...

Lagos govt warns against fake emergency calls

  The Lagos State Government has warned residents against making fake emergency calls to its Command and Control Centre.     Officials said the trend continued to undermine rapid responses to genuine emergencies across the state.     The warning came during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing in Ikeja on Monday.     The event formed part of activities marking seven years of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration.     Olugbenga Oyerinde, Commissioner for Special Duties, who addressed journalists and stakeholders at the briefing, said abuse of emergency lines had reached an alarming level.     According to him, millions of calls received were fake or completely unnecessary.     Oyerinde disclosed that 24.15 million calls entered the centre between January 2025 and April 2026.   An aspirant for the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives ticket for Apapa Federal Constituency, Mrs Funmilayo Muhammed, has rejected the outcome of the party’s primary election held on May 16, alleging widespread irregularities and manipulation. Muhammed, in a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos, described the results being circulated from the exercise as “fake and doctored”. The Lagos State Government says its 2026 N4.444 trillion “Budget of Shared Prosperity” is designed to deepen infrastructure development, economic diversification, housing delivery and inclusive social growth across the state. The Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Ope George, disclosed this on Tuesday during the 2026 Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Ikeja. George said the budget, signed into law by Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, was strategically structured to strengthen institutional reforms and improve residents’ quality of life. “The 2026 Budget of Shared Prosperity reflects the state government’s commitment to infrastructure sustainability, economic resilience and inclusive development for all Lagos residents,” he said.
