Asaba, April 23, 2024 (NAN) Delta State Gov. Sheriff Oborewori has charged corp members posted to the state to be disciplined, honest and selfless to be more impactful.

Oborewori gave the charge on Tuesday at the swearing in of Batch A stream II corps members, at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp, Issele-Uku.

Oborewori was represented by Prof. Johnbull Tonukari, the state Commissioner for Higher Education.

According to him, the orientation course was designed to instill leadership qualities such as perseverance, endurance, discipline and teamwork.

“It will also help you to enhance interaction and harmonious co-existence with others of diverse backgrounds, devoid of socio-political, ethnic and religious differences.

“At all times, endeavour to place yourself at the forefront of sincere and tireless commitment to achieve a more cohesive Nigeria where we are all our brothers’ keepers.

“Delta State is peaceful and safe, but the state is not insulated from the security challenges across the country.

“Every necessary arrangement will be put in place to ensure that you enjoy maximum protection,” he said.

He urge corps members to exhibit the highest sense of responsibility and transparent obedience to camp rules.

“Through the NYSC, landmark achievements have been recorded because our people are friendly, accommodating and very hospitable.

“During the orientation exercise, you will be exposed to self-employment techniques, entrepreneurship training, drills, socio-cultural activities and immersion in the traditions of your host communities.

“These values are aimed to shape your discernment, enhance your national outlook of statutory obligations and influence your attitudinal disposition towards building a strong, united and cohesive nation,” he said.

Mr Olusegun Alao, Delta State Coordinator of NYSC, urged the corps members to seize the opportunity of national service to develop into leaders.

“The commencement of this orientation course marks the initiation of a transformative journey for our prospective corps members as they prepare to serve our fatherland.

“This orientation programme has been meticulously designed to equip our prospective corps members with the required skills and knowledge for their one-year national service,” he said.

The coordinator said that the programmes included lectures on the ideals of the NYSC scheme and promotion of national core values, and practical sessions on skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development.

“Our aim is to empower our corps members to become self-reliant and employers of labour during and after service,” he said.

He said that a total of 2,051 prospective corps members were duly registered.

He urged the state government to expedite action in fulfilling its promise of providing a new 150 KVA diesel generator and assist in addressing the challenges of water supply.

He urged the corps members to engage in all aspects of the scheme, adapt to the challenges and embrace opportunities that would come their ways. (NAN)(nannews.com.ng)
