Sanwo-Olu lays foundation stone for new Alaba-Rago Transnational Market

Babajide Sanwo-olu of Lagos State on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for an ultra-modern Alaba-Rago Transnational Market in Iba Local Government Council Development Area (LCDA). The governor was represented by Dr Olajide Babajide, his Special Adviser on EGIS and Urban Development. He said that the re-development of the market was in line with market transformation moves of his administration’s THEMES Plus Agenda. He said that the state government would work together with the Alaba-Rago community on the revitalisation, re-development and renewal of the market. According to him, the market has been for a long time and is deteriorating. Sustainable Development: Lagos partners EU-Africa Chamber of Commerce

Lagos, Nov. 25, 2024 (NAN) The Lagos State Government has taken a significant step toward advancing sustainable development by expressing interest to partner with the EU-Africa Chamber of Commerce (ECACC).   The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) took place during COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Monday.   This is contained in a statement signed by Mrs Titilayo Oshodi,  Special Adviser to Lagos State Gov. Tennis Academy to extend programme to public schools

      Tennis   HTE Tennis Academy has declared its readiness to introduce its tennis development programme, ‘Catch-Them-Young’, to public schools in Lagos State.   Henry Shedrack, Proprietor of the Academy, gave the indication on Friday during the annual inter-school tennis championship held at Italian International School, Lekki, Lagos.   He said the academy was aiming at ensuring that children were groomed to become globally competitive tennis players in the future, regardless of their background.   Shedrack added that the academy would soon extend the ‘Catch-Them-Young’ competition to public schools to discover more talents.   He said that 20 schools were invited for the 2024 competition, but only a few could make it due to the ongoing exams and tests in their various schools.   According to him, the number of kids who came this year is almost the same as last year.   “We are happy to have this number and more parents who came to enco...

NGO donates 100 chairs to Catholic Church

   The Open Hands Amazing Charitable Organization has donated 100 chairs to the Catholic Church of the Archangels, Gaduwa/Durumi, Abuja.  The donation, which is valued at over N2 million, is aimed at supporting the growth of the church and providing comfort to its members during services. According to the founder of the organisation, Dr Magdalene Agada, the donation is part of her organisation’s efforts to support the gospel of Jesus Christ and the growth of the church.  Agada, who is based in the United States, stated that her organisation has also been providing support to members of the church and other well-meaning Nigerians with various needs, including payment of house rents, tuition fees for students, and assistance in setting up businesses. Community Day: Sanwo-Olu seeks unity, peaceful co-existence

    Gov. Every one present at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Surulere could attest to the fact that these junior players U-11, U-13 and U-16 came prepared with impressive display of skills. In the U-11 girls category, Suzan Balogun defeated Shetemi Adekunle 3-1, for the boys, Udo Favour won Wilson Imeobong 3-1. It was a easy win for Grace Gana, she thrashed Khadijat Durosinlorun 3-0. The Director General of the Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, has called on Lagosians to take responsibility and be more safety-conscious as the end of the year approaches. Speaking over the weekend to journalists about safety in our environment and the current weather, which is excessive heat and dry conditions, Mr. Mojola emphasized that the safety of lives must take priority over everything else. He stated, "Once there is life, there is hope for a better tomorrow. We can only hope for the best." Mr. Mojola highlighted that the current weather conditions are unfavorable. The excessive heat due to dry weather can lead to tiredness, high fever, blurred vision, and dehydration, which are uncomfortable and harmful to health. Squash  Some stakeholders at the ongoing 5th edition of the Expros Diaspora Squash Championships has applauded players and coaches for consistently improving their skills. The 5th edition of the U-11, U-13 and U-16 championships was organised by the International Association of Ex Squash Pros in Diaspora. The tournament served off from Nov. 12 to Nov. 16 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Surulere. Regina Ogunjimi, a former number one ranked female squash player in Nigeria, in the 1980's said that the level of play of players has been mind-blowing. "I am so proud of all the coaches. Group to support vulnerable Lagos households with 25,000 meals

  Food By Aderonke Ojediran Lagos, Nov. 12, 2024 (NAN) FoodClique Support Initiative, a charitable organisation,  will distribute about 25,000 meals to vulnerable households in Lagos State during the festive season, in an effort to tackle hunger. The Chief Executive Officer of the organisation,  Mr Ibrahim Onilegbale, gave the assurance at a news conference on Monday in Lagos. IHRO-Africa urges policy makers to create business-friendly reforms

  The International Human Rights Observatory Africa (IHRO-Africa), a civil society organisation, has called on policy makers to implement business-friendly reforms to mitigate human capital flight in Nigeria. Daniel Koussou, the Chairman of the committee on Economic Diplomacy, Trade and Investment, IHRO-AFRICA, made the call during the inauguration of the committee members in Lagos on Thursday. He expressed concerns over the increasing cases of human capital flight due to the harsh business environment. According to Koussou, over 100 companies have exited Nigeria since 2020, resulting in estimated losses of 56 billion dollars. He attributed this to economic instability, volatile currency fluctuations, and high operational costs.
