Sustainable Development: Lagos partners EU-Africa Chamber of Commerce




Lagos, Nov. 25, 2024 (NAN) The Lagos State Government has taken a significant step toward advancing sustainable development by expressing interest to partner with the EU-Africa Chamber of Commerce (ECACC).


 


The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) took place during COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Monday.


 


This is contained in a statement signed by Mrs Titilayo Oshodi,  Special Adviser to Lagos State Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Climate Change and Circular Economy.


 


“This strategic partnership aims to unlock climate financing, foster technology transfer, and promote green economic growth in Lagos State, aligning with the vision of our Governor Sanwo-Olu to position Lagos as a sustainable and resilient mega city.


 


“This collaboration with the EU-Africa Chamber of Commerce is a key step in advancing our vision for a sustainable future in Lagos.


 


“With the EUACC’s extensive network and expertise, we are better equipped to accelerate the deployment of innovative climate solutions, position Lagos as a global leader in sustainable development, and attract meaningful green investments.


 


“Our participation in COP29 has been transformative, strengthening our position as a frontrunner in global climate action by forging strategic partnerships and showcasing Lagos’s pioneering projects,” she said.


 


Oshodi added that the partnership would deliver key outcomes, including enhanced access to climate finance through green bonds, concessional funding and market promotion of Lagos State’s Article Compliant projects which also attracts funding for clean technology and sustainable infrastructure development.


 


” It also aligns with the ongoing strategic partnership between Lagos State Office for Climate Change and Circular Economy, Access Bank a leading African financial institution with operations across Africa, the United Kingdom, Europe and Asia, and Carbonivity, a leading carbon asset development firm, to accelerate climate investment initiatives for Lagos State.

Yakubu, Enebeli commend Quadri, Jadesola as they shine at IGP squash finals

Squash champions of the IGP Open Contenders Invitational Classics flanked in the middle by CSO Charity Enebeli     Squash     Sixteen-year-old Yusuf Quadri, a junior champion, shocked the crowd by defeating senior top seeded player, Lanre Abdulrahman in the men’s final of the IGP Squash Contenders Invitational Classics on Thursday in Lagos.   The epic five-round action packed game ended 11/5, 11/13, 11/9, 6/11 and 7/13 in favour of Quadri.   Top seed Olatunji Jadesola also impressed, overpowering Modupe Faniyi in four sets to clinch the women’s singles title with a scoreline 11/7, 7/11, 11/5 and 11/4.   Assistant Commissioner of Police Abubakar Yakubu praised the event, calling it a showcase of squash excellence and a platform for youth development.   “We saw the best of squash. LG autonomy needs more constitutional advocacy says SAN

  Constitution  A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Prof. Oladayo Amokaye, has advocated amendment of the 1999 Constitution to clearly define the status of local governments within the Nigerian federal system. Amokaye, who is a Professor of Private and Property Law, University of Lagos, made the call at the 20th Annual Adekunle Kukoyi Memorial Lecture, on Wednesday in Ikeja. The lecture had the topic: “Usurpation of Powers and Functions: A Case Study of Local Government Administration and Autonomy”. Amokaye said that the definition was crucial, adding that local governments only existed in principles. He said that constitutional amendment would help in removing ambiguities regarding local government creation, funding and responsibilities.
