Lagos Basketball: Island Wolves down 9-2-5ERS 40-35

Lagos, Jan. 12, 2025 (NAN) The Island Wolves, on Sunday, defeated 9-2-5ERS, 40 – 35, in the 2025 maiden edition of a Basketball tournament held in Lagos Island.
The game, held at the Campos Mini Stadium, witnessed a large turn out of basketball enthusiasts who were thrilled by the performances of both sides.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Island Wolves is a Lagos island-based basketball academy while 9-2-5ERS is from Victoria Island.
After the game, Daniela Odike, Captain of 9-2-5ERS, thanked the organisers of the game for giving them the opportunity and platform to showcase their talents in basketball.
Odike said that, though her team tried to win the match, but they lost to a better side.
“We are going to prepare better next time. In fact, we have seen our mistakes and faults but we assure our fans that 9-2-5ERS will do better next time.
“We call on the government and other stakeholders to come up with initiatives like this to keep the youth engaged,” the captain said.
Nicholas Anyamene, one of the organisers of the Tournament and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of High Octane Media, was delighted with the success of the game.
Anyamene called on corporate organisations to emulate sponsors of the event in discovering and nurturing young talents who would help grow basketball in the country.
“We need other corporate organisations to emulate Milo to help build up the talents who will advance and help the national team in the basketball game,” he said.
Also, Funmilola Oyewole, the Sport Marketing Manager, Nestle Milo, noted that it was not all about winning but opportunity to share love and display unity among participants.
Oyewole said that the tournament would give them hope that they could help achieve greater things in life through the game of basketball.
Similarly, Lawrence Okonji, another sponsor, said such competitions were imperative for basketball in the country as many young talents were searching for platforms to showcase their talents. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
