Lagos govt unveils ‘identifier’ project to revolutionise property identification
The Lagos State Government on Tuesday, has unveiled the pilot phase of its innovative “Identifier” project, a digital addressing system aimed at streamlining house numbering and street naming across the state.
Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu launched the initiative at the Nigeria Land Titling, Registration and Documentation Programme, organised by the Lagos State Office of Electronic Geographic Information System (e-GIS) and Urban Development, in Victoria Island.
Sanwo-Olu said that the project would give every property in the state a unique digital identity, enhancing navigation, service delivery and urban management.
“With the ‘Identifier’ project, we are laying the foundation for a smarter, safer and more efficient Lagos.
“Every home, office and building will now have a traceable and verifiable address, which will improve not just navigation, but also emergency response, revenue collection and city planning," the governor said.
Special Adviser to the Governor on e-GIS and Urban Development, Dr Olajide Babatunde, said the system was embedded with QR codes and local government-specific colour codes for easy identification.
“This is a major step towards modernising Lagos’ infrastructure and improving quality of life.
“When fully implemented, we expect significant improvements in security, revenue generation and overall efficiency in service delivery," he said.
According to him, the pilot phase would serve as a proof of concept before full-scale rollout across the state
