Christian clerics preach wellness, unity as potter house of Lagos embarks on walk for life
Christian clerics on Saturday emphasised the importance of wellness, unity and positive citizenship as the Potter House of Lagos embarked on a five-kilometre fitness walk tagged “Walk for Life” in Lagos.
The Resident Pastor of the Potter House of Lagos, Pastor Emmanuel Uzugbo, who led members of the congregation from Iponri to the National Stadium and back to Costain, said physical wellness was essential for effective service to God and humanity.
Uzugbo said regular exercise, balanced diet and routine medical check-ups were critical to sustaining both spiritual and physical wellbeing, noting that believers must remain healthy to function optimally in society.
“Wellness is foundational to purpose. If you are not well, you cannot serve effectively in God’s house or contribute meaningfully to the nation,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to embrace peace and unity, speak positively about the country and pray fervently for its progress.
“Nigeria is a blessed nation. What we need is the political will to do the right things for the benefit of all citizens,” Uzugbo said.
The cleric explained that the walk featured free medical screenings, including blood pressure and blood sugar checks, to promote preventive healthcare.
“Wealth comes from wellness. If you are not healthy, productivity suffers. That is why we are encouraging people to know their vital numbers and take responsibility for their health,” he said.
Also speaking, Pastor Sesan Ibitoye stressed the need for at least annual medical check-ups, especially for church workers, to prevent avoidable emergencies.
“Faith does not replace medical responsibility. Knowing your health status and consulting professionals when necessary saves lives and sustains service,” he said.
The coordinator of the fitness walk, Mrs Olufunke Adu, said the initiative was designed to engage and impact the Surulere community through wellness and outreach.
“Walk for Life is fitness with a faith undertone. It is about bringing people together, engaging the community and expressing love in practical ways,” she said.
Some participants said the exercise energised them physically and spiritually, as they combined fitness activities with prayers during the walk.
The Potter House of Lagos operates under the House of Freedom led by Apostle Tony Rapu, an organisation noted for rehabilitating drug addicts and restoring dignity to vulnerable persons across the country.
