Lawmaker distributes furniture to schools in Lagos, eyes more educational projects

Lagos, April 17 (NAN) The lawmaker representing Apapa Federal Constituency, Dr Adesola Samuel Adedayo, on Friday, distributed standard school furniture to public schools in the constituency, reaffirming his commitment to advancing education.
He said the move also aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking during the presentation in Apapa, Adedayo said the intervention aims to improve learning conditions and boost academic performance.
He described education as a critical part of national development and personal advancement, noting that his life was shaped by access to quality education.
“It is my greatest pleasure to welcome you all to the official presentation and distribution of standard furniture provided to ensure comfort and a more conducive learning environment for our school children,” he said.
Adedayo noted that education has remained a top priority since he assumed office, citing the demands of a competitive global environment and the growing influence of digital technology.
“The future we envisage will not evolve unless deliberate and decisive steps are taken now to plant the right seeds for the tomorrow we desire,” he said
According to him, the furniture distribution marks the second phase of such intervention in the constituency.
“What we are doing today is the second time for this particular intervention, and we are not done yet with these innovative efforts in education,” he said.
Adedayo assured constituents of more initiatives, including modern teaching aids like white marker boards, school infrastructure upgrades, and teacher training programmes to bridge gaps in English, Mathematics, and the sciences.
He added that high-performing students would be rewarded with laptops and support for tertiary admission, and consequently, urged parents to complement government efforts by providing basic learning materials and ensuring proper nutrition for their children.
“Government cannot supply all the needs of our children; Parents also have a role to play by providing writing materials and ensuring good nutrition,” he said.
Reacting to the initiative, some education stakeholders in the constituency commended the move as being timely and impactful.
Head Teacher of Ijora Oloye Nursery and Primary School, Mrs Aderonke Odusoya, said the intervention would significantly ease challenges students face, especially during examinations.
“During examinations, it has been very inconvenient, but this will make a big difference,” she said.
On his part, the Principal of Apapa Senior High School and Anchor Chairman for Apapa Zone, Mr Oludare Obitayo, said that although the furniture would greatly improve learning conditions.
“Though it is not enough, it will go a long way in improving the situation; He has done wonderfully well and complemented the efforts of the Lagos State Government,” he said.(NAN)
