Uzo-Uwani SSAs’ Forum Hails Ezugwu on Vanguard Grassroots Development Award

 



The Forum of Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) to the Chairman of Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area has congratulated Chijioke Joseph Ezugwu on his emergence as the Grassroots Development Icon of the Year at the 2026 Vanguard Personality of the Year Awards.


In a congratulatory statement, the forum described the honour, conferred by Vanguard Media Limited, as a clear testament to the council chairman’s achievements and commitment to good governance within a short period in office.


The group praised Ezugwu as a results-driven leader whose administration has recorded significant progress in infrastructure, security, and human empowerment across Uzo-Uwani.


According to the forum, the award reflects the growing recognition of the chairman’s efforts in driving development and improving the welfare of residents. They noted that his leadership style, marked by vision and inclusiveness, has continued to attract accolades.


The SSAs further highlighted key projects executed under his administration, including the remodelling of the Local Government Secretariat and Chairman’s Lodge, as well as the construction of a new administrative complex named after the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.


They also cited the provision of ultra-modern boreholes across the 16 Smart Schools and several communities such as Uvuru, Amidi, Amaebo, Nimbo, and Opanda, alongside the construction of rural road networks linking multiple communities, including a three-kilometre asphalted road.


The forum further commended the chairman’s efforts in youth empowerment, particularly through strategic appointments and programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and fostering inclusive governance.


“This award, coming from a reputable organisation like Vanguard Newspapers, is a testament to your giant strides in less than two years in office,” the statement read.


Reaffirming their support, the forum joined residents, friends, and well-wishers of Uzo-Uwani to celebrate the chairman, describing the recognition as well-deserved and encouraging him to sustain his developmental agenda.

Yakubu, Enebeli commend Quadri, Jadesola as they shine at IGP squash finals

Squash champions of the IGP Open Contenders Invitational Classics flanked in the middle by CSO Charity Enebeli     Squash     Sixteen-year-old Yusuf Quadri, a junior champion, shocked the crowd by defeating senior top seeded player, Lanre Abdulrahman in the men’s final of the IGP Squash Contenders Invitational Classics on Thursday in Lagos.   The epic five-round action packed game ended 11/5, 11/13, 11/9, 6/11 and 7/13 in favour of Quadri.   Top seed Olatunji Jadesola also impressed, overpowering Modupe Faniyi in four sets to clinch the women’s singles title with a scoreline 11/7, 7/11, 11/5 and 11/4.   Assistant Commissioner of Police Abubakar Yakubu praised the event, calling it a showcase of squash excellence and a platform for youth development.   “We saw the best of squash. 5th Greater Lagos Summit to deepen inclusive governance
