APC assures Lagos aspirants of credible governorship primary
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has assured governorship aspirants of a free, fair and credible primary.
Party leaders gave the assurance on Thursday ahead of the May 21 governorship primary for the 2027 election.
The pledge came during a meeting with frontline aspirant and philanthropist, Mr Samuel Ajose.
Speaking afterwards, Lagos APC Chairman, Mr Cornelius Ojelabi, promised all aspirants a level playing field.
He spoke alongside the South West Organising Secretary, Mr Lateef Ibirogba, during the discussions.
Ojelabi said the party would follow established procedures and the Electoral Act in conducting the primary.
“He is not new to the party. This is a family visit. He came to formally declare his intention and share his vision for Lagos State.
“We assured him that the party would adopt consensus or direct primaries, as directed nationally.
“Every aspirant will enjoy equal opportunity in a transparent and credible process,” he said.
Ojelabi said the APC remained committed to internal democracy and disciplined political engagement.
“Our aspirants consult members across local governments before the primary, and that reflects our strength.
“The field remains open, and Nigerians will soon witness a transparent internal contest,” he said.
Responding, Ajose dismissed rumours of withdrawal and insisted he remained firmly in the race.
“By God’s grace, I will contest this election. We sought assurances, and the chairman received us warmly beyond expectation.
“The leadership assured us the process will be free, fair and credible,” he said.
Ajose said he would accept the outcome, stressing that party supremacy remained paramount.
“Whatever the party decides, we will abide by it,” adding that members of the SMA movement would mobilise support for President Bola Tinubu.
“In 2027, we aim to deliver 3.5 million votes for President Tinubu in Lagos,” he said. (NAN)
