Hospital, Church Benefit from Philanthropist’s Gesture.
The Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi has formally expressed appreciation to a philanthropist, Dr (Mrs) Magdalene Agada for donating medical and surgical equipment, Fiberoptic Macintosh Laryngoscopes, worth millions of naira to it.
Fiberoptic Macintosh Laryngoscopes are medical devices used for tracheal intubation, which involves inserting a tube into a patient's airway to establish a secure airway for ventilation.
These laryngoscopes combine the traditional Macintosh blade design with fiberoptic technology, allowing for better visualization of the airway. They are used in various medical settings, including operating rooms for tracheal intubation during surgery; emergency departments for rapid sequence intubation in emergency situations, and intensive care units for airway management in critically ill patients.
The fiberoptic component provides a clear view of the airway, helping healthcare professionals to visualize the vocal cords and glottic opening, navigate the tracheal tube into the airway, and confirm proper tube placement.
An appreciation letter dated 15th of January 2025, by the hospital’s Director of Administration, Dr Terkaa Luga (JP), said “Management is indeed very happy with the quality of the equipment and the comprehensive package which includes five blades, an adult handle and protective case. Your donation will make a significant difference in our ability to provide safe and effective anesthesia management, respiratory control and cardiac care.”
Similarly, the Catholic Church of Abuja has expressed appreciation to Dr Agada for donating altar chairs for Priests of the Church of the Archangels, Gaduwa/Durumi, Abuja.
A letter of appreciation by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Ambrose Anene said, “We are so blessed to have a generous supporter like you and we are immensely appreciative to you for your kind gesture.”
Responding to the letters of appreciation, Dr Agada, who is based in the United States, said giving back to the poor, the needy and critical sectors in Nigeria was her way of showing love.
She urged privileged individuals to follow her example by not leaving every responsibility for the government but to assign in bringing succour to the people.
