Ayinla foundation seeks support for disadvantaged children, distributes educational materials

 The Founder of Olalekan Ayinla Foundation, Mr Olalekan Ayinla, has urged well-meaning Nigerians to support all the tiers of government in  improving the welfare of less privileged children.

 

Ayinla made the call during the foundation’s distribution of educational materials to more than 1,000 pupils in public schools within Ikeja Federal Constituency of Lagos State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the foundation distributed the materials under its back-to-school programme.

The materials include schoolbags, shoes, writing materials and uniforms for students with tattered uniforms.

 

Ayinla said that government alone could not meet the needs of all vulnerable children.

He said that there was the need for individuals, corporate organisations and non-governmental organisations to complement government’s efforts.

 

NAN reports that  the foundation on Friday visited Adeniyi Jones Primary School, Tokunbo Alli Primary School, Sogunle Primary School and Wasimi Primary School Onigbongbo Primary School.

 

It also visited St. Peters Primary School, Opebi Primary School, Estate Primary School and Ogba Primary School.

 

Ayinla said: “Government alone cannot do it. That is why we are coming in as partners with the government.

“Some other NGOs are also doing their part but there is still a lot to be done, particularly in the area of education, healthcare and the general welfare of children.”

 

Ayinla appealed to political office holders across the country to prioritise the welfare of children and invest more in their education and healthcare.

 

“Let them do more and prioritise the welfare of children who are the leaders of tomorrow. We need to invest in them,” he said.

 

 

He said the foundation’s educational intervention was part of its broader programmes aimed at improving the living standards and educational opportunities of vulnerable children.

 

 

Ayinla said that the foundation also supported widows and people living with disability.

“This is not the only project we do. It is one of our projects.

 

“We have other programmes through which we support our people and provide better facilities and opportunities for them to improve their lives,” he said.

 

He expressed concern at the condition of some pupils in the schools the foundation visited, noting that some were poorly dressed while others lacked basic items such as shoes.

 

Ayinla said the situation made sustained intervention by government and other stakeholders very important.

 

He said the foundation would continue to implement  programmes to support members of Ikeja Federal Constituency.(NAN) www.nannews.ng
