Headwaters Academy Products Shine at West African University Games

Products of the Headwaters Squash Academy have recorded impressive performances at the recently concluded West African University Games (WAUG), winning a total of eight medals across different categories.

The outstanding athletes include Desmond Iguodala, Anthony Monday, Friday Daniel and Happiness Daniel, who represented their respective institutions at the games.

Desmond Iguodala of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) won gold in the mixed doubles and silver in the singles event, while his schoolmate, Anthony Monday, also of OAU, claimed silver in the doubles category.

Friday Daniel of Benson Idahosa University (BIU) clinched gold in the doubles, silver in the mixed doubles and bronze in the singles event.

In the female category, Happiness Daniel of OAU won silver medals in both the singles and doubles events.

Reacting to the development, the Founder of Headwaters Squash Academy, Mr Seun Peters, described the performance of the players as a source of pride and fulfilment.

Peters said it was delightful to see the athletes excel both academically and professionally in squash.

“It was a pleasant sight and a delightful experience seeing them doing well both in academics and in their sporting career,” he said.

He noted that watching the players grow from primary school to tertiary institutions had been a rewarding journey.

“Watching and nurturing them from primary school to tertiary institution gives me a fulfilling joy seeing them becoming great in both academics and squash,” Peters said.

He added that the academy remained committed to developing young talents who could compete favourably on both local and international stages while pursuing academic excellence.

Peters said the achievement of the athletes was a testament to the academy’s grassroots development programme and its focus on combining education with sports.

He urged corporate organisations and stakeholders to support squash development in Nigeria to encourage more youth participation.
